Rapid PULSE 360 Pilot Program FAQs
1. What is the Rapid PULSE 360 Program?
PULSE is an acronym for: Physicians Universal Leadership Skills Education. However, the program is not just for physicians, but for all healthcare providers and professionals. In general, the Rapid PULSE 360 program is:
- Short: about 20 Likert-type questions
- Quick: about 1 minute (plus answering any open-ended questions)
- Valid: many questions correlate with malpractice claim history, patient satisfaction, and likelihood to receive complaints from colleagues and/or staff
Highlights of the program include:
- Minimal administrative burden (highly automated software drives the program)
- Ability to develop reports showing behavioral strengths along with opportunities for improvement
- 30-minute, orientation sessions will be provided to participants
Incorporating the PULSE 360 Program into an organization’s professional practice evaluation process can be an effective strategy for preventing disruptive behaviors and mitigating Employment Practices Liability (EPL) claims.
2. What are some benefits of the Rapid PULSE 360 Program?
Benefits of this program include:
- Reinforcement/morale-boosting for the majority who receive favorable feedback
- Specific feedback will be provided on actionable improvement
- Supports more targeted developmental interventions (e.g., coaching by PULSE program staff) for individuals with unfavorable feedback
3. What is the Rapid PULSE 360 Program’s intended use?
The program is committed to helping healthcare providers obtain the kind of high-caliber feedback that will enable them to improve practice and teamwork skills. The overarching purpose of the Rapid PULSE 360 program is, simply put, quality culture change.
4. Is participation in the Rapid PULSE 360 Pilot Program mandatory for CRICO member organizations?
No. This is a voluntary pilot program that is open to CRICO member organizations that purchase Association Liability coverage from CRICO.
5. What does the Rapid PULSE 360 Program survey measure?
The purpose of the survey is to help participants gain a better understanding of how their teamwork, communication, and related behaviors are perceived by and impacts others.
6. How do I know that the survey feedback I give is anonymous?
The program is designed to provide helpful feedback to the receiver (the person receiving feedback) as well as to protect the anonymity of the rater (the person providing feedback).
7. If the survey is anonymous, how do you know I have not completed it?
No one outside of the PULSE Program may access the individual responses you (the ‘rater’) provide to a participant (the ‘receiver’). The program’s automated reminder emails are tied to the survey links raters receive and are programed to stay open until that survey has been completed. Once the rater clicks the “Finish” button at the end of the survey, the reminders automatically stop.
8. Why am I being asked to provide feedback?
You were likely selected as a survey rater because the participant works with you frequently or believes your feedback would be informative, enlightening, or helpful.
9. What if I don’t work with this person frequently enough to answer all the questions?
The survey allows a rater to answer questions with a “Do not know at all” option. Raters can also indicate on the last question how often they work with the person.
10. How long will CRICO’s Rapid PULSE 360 Pilot Program run?
In general, CRICO will provide participating organizations with two years to implement the Rapid PULSE 360 Program at their institution.
11. What are my organization’s costs to participate in this pilot program?
Under this pilot program, CRICO will cover implementation costs for participating organizations. In addition, CRICO will provide up to $30,000 to each participating organization to support related administrative costs.
12. Is participation in the Rapid PULSE 360 Pilot Program tied to a CRICO premium reduction program?
No, the Rapid PULSE 360 Pilot Program is not tied to a CRICO premium reduction program.
13. Can participants opt out of the Rapid PULSE 360 Pilot Program?
For this pilot program, the participating Departments/Areas should have all staff participate. This ensures equity of any given Department/Area and avoids potential skewing of results.
14. Can the Rapid Pulse 360 survey questions be modified?
For this pilot program, the same survey questions will be used for all participating organizations. This will allow analysis and comparison results across specialties and/or institutions.
