Improved Safety and Cost Savings from Reductions in Cast-Saw Burns After Simulation-Based Education for Orthopaedic Surgery Residents

Researchers from Boston Children’s Hospital analyzed CBS data to determine the costs associated with cast-saw burn claims. This analysis enabled the necessary calculations in order to determine a return on investment for the simulation-based training. The study concluded that simulation-based training for orthopaedic surgical residents was effective in reducing cast-saw injuries and had a high theoretical return on investment.
