A Verbal Electronic Checklist for Timeouts Linked to the Electronic Health Record
May 24, 2017
MGH researchers developed Clinical Assist Decision Interface (CADI), a mobile application that gives voice to the electronic safety checklist. The application was implemented in the hospital’s interventional radiology practice to deliver patient information integrated into a checklist during a timeout procedure.
The researchers concluded that their study showed “the use of software that verbalizes the safety checklist with real-time information in the EHR is accepted by users, can improve workflow efficiency, and can increase compliance for each item in the checklist.” In addition, the study results showed that “efficiency was also improved because information for the timeout was instantly available, requiring no preparation time or interruption to workflow.”
