Communication Failures in Medical Malpractice – Lessons Learned From the CRICO Strategies’ Comparative Benchmarking System

Communication failures may lead to patient harm, serious injury, or death. Looking at data from the CRICO Strategies national Comparative Benchmarking System (CBS), authors discuss some of the risks associated with miscommunication between providers as well as between providers and patients. Organizations that contribute their data to CBS are able to understand the magnitude of incurred financial losses and pinpoint what is driving those losses—in this study, communication failures.
