A Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center quality improvement project showed how a standardized tool (checklist) to promote team communication and clarification of discrepancies pre-procedure can contribute to prevention of errors. The authors concluded, “The results showed significant improvements in physician documentation completeness and legibility, suggesting the checklist prompted clarification of documentation and communication between the nurse and the physician.”  Data from Candello’s 2020 and 2015 benchmarking reports are referenced.
