Healthcare Risk Management reports on a large study conducted by Boston Children’s Hospital in which researchers reviewed 498 medical malpractice claims provided by Candello, CRICO’s national medical malpractice collaborative. The work revealed a direct relationship between the quality of patient handoffs and claims.

Beth Israel Team Sets Target on ER Care

CRICO’s role, as a convener of patient safety leaders and sponsor of patient safety initiatives, is demonstrated in this Boston Herald article on “trigger” programs implemented in the emergency departments of three CRICO-insured institutions.

 This Boston Herald article provides a clear indication of how medical malpractice data can lead to safer and more efficient patient care.  As a result of a CRICO-sponsored initiative–the outcome of convening Leaders in Emergency Medicine across the Harvard medical community–a “trigger” process was established to reduce patient wait  time in the ER and optimize team communications. Positive results established, the program has now been implemented at three of CRICO’s insured organizations: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Cambridge Health Alliance, and Mount Auburn Hospital.
