Part of CRICO’s mission is to advance the national patient safety movement. Heather Riah, MBA, assistant vice president, Candello, says, “While full access to our Candello database is by membership only, researchers, authors, and patient safety leaders, now have immediate access to data that may provide insight into patient safety vulnerabilities. Our goal is to provide data that can be used to advance research on patient safety interventions.”

Candello Solutions, which contains more than 470,000 medical malpractice cases, represents roughly 33 percent of U.S. malpractice cases. Candello Members, which include captive and commercial insurers, academic medical centers and community hospitals, and physician practice groups, are able to benchmark trends in their MPL cases against peers across the country. This enables an organization to learn where their institution may be at higher risk for certain types of preventable outcomes.

To support researchers, authors, and patient safety leaders, Candello makes available a set of data profiles related to some of the highest risk areas for medical malpractice vulnerability.  Fill out this form to access the data profiles.

An article in today’s New York Time's suggests that malpractice reform may be best served by an investment in patient safety. At CRICO, we have been following just this model for decades by offering grant awards to stimulate research and patient safety interventions intended to improve the quality and safety of patient care. There are several clear examples of how these interventions have made a distinct impact on improving patient safety, including the I-PASS Study Group; just awarded the John M. Eisenberg Award for Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality.
