For CRICO-insured Obstetricians

The OB Patient Safety Program is open to all CRICO-insured Obstetricians (attendings and residents). This voluntary program entitles participants to remain in a lower premium underwriting specialty category for each year in which they complete specific risk reduction activities assigned over a two-year cycle. CRICO-insured obstetricians who do not complete the program requirements will be assigned to a higher premium underwriting specialty category, but may requalify for the lower specialty category in subsequent years upon completion of the program requirements. Costs encountered for completing specified risk reduction coursework are the responsibility of each CRICO-insured obstetrical clinician.

Program Requirements: Individual Participants

FIRST YEAR

To maintain your status in the lower premium underwriting specialty category, you must complete the following activities and submit your documents of completion by December 2 of the current calendar year to our contact below:

  1. CRICO-approved Labor and Delivery team coursework. Please contact your department or Bessie Manley Szum for details.
  2. Passing a test on the current Clinical Guidelines for Obstetrical Providers of the CRICO-insured Institutions

SECOND YEAR

    Accelerating Patient Safety Improvement

    Article
Patient safety is a serious public health issue. Like obesity, motor vehicle crashes, and breast cancer, harms caused during care have significant mortality, morbidity, and quality-of-life implications, and adversely affect patients in every care setting. Although patient safety has advanced in important ways since the Institute of Medicine released To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System in 1999, work to make care safer for patients has progressed at a rate much slower than anticipated.
