Based on the recommendations of our advisory committee, the 2026 version of Clinical Guidelines for Obstetrical Services at CRICO-insured Institutions, contains changes or enhancements in the following areas:

Content

  • All affected OB Guidelines were reviewed and updated to reflect current clinical evidence, public health recommendations, and regulatory changes, with input from a multidisciplinary group of obstetrical care providers.
  • Revisions include expanded guidance on genetic screening and counseling, updated vaccine recommendations (including COVID-19 and RSV), refinements to recommended screening and laboratory testing, updates to recommended therapeutic hypothermia practices, and clarification of labor, delivery, and operative vaginal birth practices.
  • Language was updated throughout to improve clarity, consistency, and inclusivity, including outdated terminology and emphasis on patient-centered communication and shared decision-making.

References

  • The supporting evidence for all Guidelines was reviewed and updated.

Test

  • Every year, CRICO-insured obstetrical providers participating in the CRICO Obstetrics Patient Safety Program are required to pass a test based on their study of the OB Guidelines. The test (see the link in the margin), will be updated annually to reflect any clinically significant changes to the Guidelines.
