The tool was developed with input on peer review protection from experts on ethics and law at Harvard University, and is comprised of a 7-step checklist to ensure the effective use of peer review protected data. After a successful use of the tool to study allergy safety with voluntary safety reported data the tool was incorporated into Massachusetts General Hospital's existing Data Use for Performance Improvement policy.
