Researchers evaluated the impact of an automated alert system, implemented in a 753-bed academic medical center, in reinforcing policy adherence for communicating critical imaging test results to referring providers.

The intervention, Alert Notification of Critical Results (ANCR) system, was implemented in January 2010. After four years, researchers concluded that the automated alerts system was successfully adopted and contributed to increased adherence to institutional policy with reduced workflow interruptions.
