Nursing Practice and Patient Safety: Claims, Trends & Takeaways
May 10, 2023 from 1 to 2 pm EST
CRICO invites you to join us on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, from 1:00pm – 2:00pm EST for a live webinar Nursing Practice and Patient Safety: Claims, Trends & Takeaways.
The Radonda Vaught case highlighted the issue of medication errors involving nursing, drastically increasing the concern from nurses across the country related to the potential risks of being sued following a medication error. This concern comes amid unprecedented overcrowding issues, increasing patient acuity, and staffing shortages, compounding the stress on nurses. Nurses are often the final stop before a medication error reaches a patient.
The goal of this activity is to provide learners with the knowledge about malpractice cases as related to nursing overall and specifically, nursing medication errors. The learner will understand the data related to trends including themes related to processes of care, common medications and contributing factors in medication malpractice cases.
The learner will also be provided an overview of the tenets of "just culture" within an organization as well as various patient safety interventions to assist in risk mitigation for patients and protection of one's own practice.
Julie Higden RN, DNP, OCN, NE-BC and Kristin O'Reilly BSN, MPH, Program Directors, Patient Safety at CRICO, will provide their expert points of view about malpractice risks, risk mitigation and identify opportunities to improve attendees' own practice.
CRICO/Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Medical Institutions is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
