FAQs About Grants

  • What is the CRICO/RMF Research Grant Program?

CRICO/RMF and its subsidiary, Healthcare Safety Research Institute (HSRI), award grants for research and demonstration projects aimed at achieving greater understanding of patient safety issues, their etiology, and potential interventions.

The funding of these grants comes from the Board of Directors of CRICO/RMF, the patient safety and medical malpractice company owned by and serving the Harvard medical community since 1976. This funding is a major part of CRICO/RMF's mission to provide a superior medical malpractice insurance program to our members, and to assist them in delivering the safest health care in the world.

  • Who is eligible to apply for CRICO/RMF's Research Grants?

Research grant applicants must be employees of an institution that is insured by the Controlled Risk Insurance Company (CRICO), and/or must receive their individual malpractice insurance through CRICO. Both physician and non-physician applicants are welcome to participate.

Applications will not be accepted from a principal investigator currently funded through the 2007 CRICO/RMF research grant cycle. Applications from investigators who were funded by CRICO/RMF in previous years are eligible on the condition that their proposed research is considered new.
