Prostate Cancer

Professional liability claims naming CRICO-insured physicians shows that cases involving missed or delayed prostate cancer diagnoses are emerging as a top area of risk for physicians providing primary care. In response to that trend, CRICO/RMF asked Harvard-affiliated experts from General Medicine and Urology to review those cases and to formulate recommendations that serve to protect both patients at risk for prostate cancer and their health care providers.

PSA Testing for Prostate Cancer includes a brief analysis of malpractice data and examples related to cases in which the diagnosis of prostate cancer was delayed. Against that backdrop, it offers specific advice for PSA testing relative to a patient's personal and family history, and also provides guidance on talking points for the patient discussion.

For questions about the PSA Testing for Prostate Cancer, contact CRICO/RMF Director of Loss Prevention/Patient Safety, Ann Louise Puopolo.
