FLS Patient Safety Incentive Program

CRICO/RMF is endorsing the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) pilot program for general surgery attendings who perform laparoscopic surgery. The FLS program is a comprehensive, two-part cognitive and manual exam. There are two options for taking the FLS course: (1) a self-study option, or (2) a postgraduate course. There are no fees involved, but registration is required. Upon successful completion of the program, a one-time patient safety incentive of $500 will be awarded. In addition, CME credits will be provided by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

Informed Consent

The following guidelines have been prepared to assist institutions in reviewing policies, procedures and forms relative to obtaining and documenting informed consent. The guidelines are based in part on opinions and advice of malpractice defense attorneys in Massachusetts. The Risk Management Foundation recognizes that institutions should continue to have the flexibility to respond to such recommendations in a manner that will least disrupt the orderly provision of health care at the facility.
