Claims & Legal FAQs

“Regardless of whether a payment is made on your behalf, you will need to report the claim and/or lawsuit on hospital credentialing and state medical board licensing applications.”

Aram Zadow, Esq., a Senior Claims Representative, explains reporting to regulatory agencies.

Any payment from your policy — either for settlement or trial verdict — must be reported by CRICO to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine (and/or the medical licensing board of the state where you practice) and the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB). You will be provided with a copy of any submissions.

The Board of Registration posts to its physician profile website information about payments made on a malpractice claim in Massachusetts, as well as out-of-state malpractice claims. Information reported to the NPDB is not reported to the public.

Regardless of whether a payment is made on your behalf, you will need to report the claim and/or lawsuit on hospital credentialing and state medical board licensing applications. It is imperative that your reporting is accurate. However, your counsel can help you answer these questions and provide you with a description of the claim that can be used for your applications.
