Cholesterol Screening

Recommendation: Screening for lipid disorders is performed: initial screening >20 years old and then every five years (NHLBI 2002). A fasting lipid profile or non-fasting total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol is obtained for males >age 35 and females >age 45 (American Academy of Family Physicians 2003).
