 Effective Practice
Adaptation of the IDX practice management system creating a facsimile of the doctor's schedule used to track and reconcile cervical cancer screening. Results are cross-referenced with outstanding requests and followed-up. Mount Auburn Hospital Pathology Department sends a list of abnormal Pap smear results monthly. Outstanding results are reconcilied at standard intervals.
Benefit: use of existing technology to track and reconcile health screening.

  • Pelvic exams; and
  • Pap tests.

A planned care coordinator monitors electronic registries for cervical cancer screening Pap. There are daily and weekly “huddles” for planned care teams.
Benefit: Practiced based electronic tickler system for screening mammography follow up.

 Effective Practice
A log is kept for outstanding Pap results. Abnormal Pap smear results are forwarded to the ordering provider, who makes referrals to either Gynecology or the Center for Women. Abnormal Pap smear results are reconciled on arrival of the result report and outstanding requisitions reviewed on a monthly basis. MAH Pathology sends a list of abnormal Pap smear results every month to ensure reconciliation. This report is also cross referenced with the outstanding reports in the paper log book system.
